Gone To Texas Caravan Barrel Racers from West Texas came...and ran...and tested the new dirt at The Horseshoe Arena! With over 112 exibitions and 49 in the Class....The Horseshoe Arena was able to "Showoff" the new dirt...and everyone agreed..."The Ground was Great!" We ask everyone who ran to give us any suggestions and we received some great ones! Which have all been addressed! The Horseshoe Staff & DMC Thanks everyone who came to The Horseshoe & Tested the Dirt, and we were thrilled with all the positive comments and suggestions. See ya'll at Jurassic Goes West - July 6-8, 2007! Horseshoe News
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DIRT! Midland County recently finished completely replacing the dirt in both its Main Arena and Livestock Building. The previous dirt was thought to be too sandy and presented a less than perfect surface for equestrian events. The new soil was obtained with the help of Bob Kiser, world famous implement designer and soil specialist. Bob flew into Midland on two occasions; once to find soil samples, which he graded in a North Texas lab, and then again to make certain the new dirt was the same consistency as the excellent sample which was found in a special pit in the Midland area. The dirt graded at 20-25% clay with a brown color suitable for both working horse shows and breed shows. A special thanks is due to E.P.Birkhead and Ken Huseman who assisted Midland County and Bob Kiser in finding the exact dirt mixture needed for long term use in first class horse, cattle and specialty sporting events.
